Erickson, Stephen W. "Steve" Age 72 of Eden Prairie, formerly of Minneapolis died peace-fully in his sleep during the night of June 23, 2017. Steve was born in Davenport, IA on November 1, 1944 to Cecil and Genevieve Erickson (Brown). His family soon moved to Minneapolis where he grew up. He was a graduate of Minneapolis Central H.S. (1962) where he was a member of the hockey team, and the University of Minnesota where he was a member of the Acacia Fraternity. He was active in many YMCA programs and upon graduating from the University became a program director with the Minneapolis YMCA. It was at the YMCA that he met fellow program director Sue Melbostad and they were married December 26, 1969. Following two years active duty in the Army he then was employed at the Oklahoma City and St. Louis YMCA. He changed careers in St. Louis and worked for a number of management consultant firms including Reliability Management Company. In 1985, the family moved back to Minnesota. Together, they raised two children in St. Louis and Eden Prairie. Steve was an avid golfer, sailor and photographer. He enjoyed taking photos during the many vacation trips his family took. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard who passed away at a very young age. Steve is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sue; son, Troy; daughter, Stephanie (Carsten Franke); grandsons, Zach Nielsen (Troy) and Logan and Gavin Hyrkas (Stephanie); and all of his extended family and friends who were all kept busy keeping up with him. A celebration of Steve's life (a party) will be held Saturday, July 1st, 12:00-2:00 pm at Braemar Golf Course Banquet Room, 6364 John Harris Drive, Edina, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Park Nicollet Foundation Inspire Program or the Greater Twin Cities YMCA Camping Services Program.
