Larson, Roland S. age 96, of St. Louis Park passed into the loving arms of our Lord on June 17, 2017. "By his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus." (I Peter, 1:3). Preceded in death by parents, Swedish immigrants Petrus and Judith; sister Ruth Nelson and brother Helmer; adored wife, Doris, of 68 years; son Tom; grandson Tommy Wipf. Survived by sister Bette (Ken) Allen; children Dan, Jane (Michael) Wipf, Mary Lee; daughter-in-law Sue Estlund; grandchildren Michelle (Bill) Stimpson, Kristin (Tyler) Jackson, Maren (Ricardo) Chamorro; great-grandchildren Clayton, Hope, Aleya, Eden Jackson; Joanna, Thomas, Johan Chamorro. Roland served three years as a WWII Naval officer in the Atlantic and Pacific, returning home to continue his education, earning the B.S. and M.A. in education at the University of Minnesota and the doctorate in counseling psychology at Michigan State University. Roland was a pioneer and full of ideas. He was a risk-taker and in later years said, "Stay alert to life...God will have some elegant surprises for you along life's path!" He was known for his quick humor and endless jokes and puns. Roland was a true communicator and excelled at listening and affirming others. He and Doris loved working together for many years in private practice as marriage counselors, teachers, group trainers, educational consultants, and co-authors of professional books. The focus of their work was relationships, whether in marriage, family life, community, or the workplace. Roland taught us much about life balance, joy, love, compassion, forgiveness, and zest for life. He wholeheartedly lived life in thankfulness! Roland's trust and loving faith in Jesus Christ anchored his life. Memorial service Monday, June 26, 2017 at 2:00 pm; Westwood Lutheran Church, 9001 Cedar Lake Road, St. Louis Park MN 55426 with visitation one hour before service.
