Peterson, John Lewis "Jack" age 83, born in Minneapolis January 6, 1934. Died at Methodist Hospital on May 20, 2017 after a fall and 14 years of battling PMP, a rare cancer. He was preceded in death by his father Alfred Ole Peterson (1901-1982), his mother Dorothy Agnes Hill Peterson Ainsworth (1909-1989) and his wife Judy Elaine Lindblom Peterson (1942-2003). Jack is survived by his step-sister, Barbara Sutton of Kennewick, WA. As a young boy, Jack lived with his mother and stepfather in an apartment building at 3645 Bryant Ave. S., spending many hours with his mother's mother who lived in the same apartment building. Jack attended Aldrich Presbyterian, Agassiz Grade School, Bryant Junior High. He graduated in 1952 from Central High School. He still has friendships with classmates from those days. Jack worked hard his whole life. He started with a newspaper route. In high school he cleaned floors at Sandberg's Bakery on Chicago Avenue and at Johnson Appliance store on Lake Street. Jack was the first of his group to be drafted in 1953. He served as a driver for a general in the 2nd Armored Division at Bad Kreuznach, Germany. When he was discharged in 1955 he trained in the plumbers trade at Brown Institute. He worked as a Master Plumber until he retired in 1997. And was a proud member of the U.A. Plumbers Local 15 Chapter. He may have worked in your home or business while working with Chuck Doyle, Pat O'Brien or McGuire Plumbing. In 1971, when Jack was 37, he married Judy Lindblom. They built their home in Eden Prairie. Judy died of ALS in 2003. Jack lived in this home until his fall two months ago. Jack loved to travel, he was a sharp dresser and he was dyed-in-the-wool Ford guy. He still owned the 1968 Ford Galaxy he bought new from Woodheads on Lake Street. He was a member of the Minnesota Street Rod Association MSRA. Jack was generous and always willing to help. Jack was relational and built a family around his schoolmates, car lovers, church friends and neighbors. If you ever met him, you would not forget him. For many of the groups he chose to be a part of, he was the glue that held them together. We will miss him. Jack was a long-term member of Colonial Church of Edina. His memorial service will be held there at 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 31, 2017. The service will be followed by a reception and lunch at the church. For those who would like to attend there will be a short burial ceremony at Fort Snelling National Cemetery promptly at 2:05 pm after the reception. Memorials can be made to the Minnesota Pipe Trades Scholarship Fund, 440 Air Park Blvd., Duluth, MN 55811.
