Dobbelmann, Madeleine (Cross) Age 97, reunited with our dear loved ones on April 23, 2017. She was the most loving Mom. She taught us the gift of a smile and to always look at the positive side of life. She was loved by all that were blessed to know her over her 97 wonderful years. Her father Harry Cross was a volunteer in the WWI American Ambulance Corps. Her mother Madeleine Feuillade was a seamstress in Paris. Her parents fell in love, and married in Paris 1918. Little Madeleine was born in Red-wing on July 25, 1919. She had four wonderful siblings Joan, Virginia, Audrey and John. They all grew up in a home on Moorland Ave in Edina. She graduated from West High School and Carleton College. During WWII, Madeleine worked in the Airforce Wright-Patterson Field staff office in Ohio where she met and married Charles McDonald. Even though this marriage was short, they were blessed with three wonderful sons, Mike, Mark and Kevin. She raised them on her own until she fell in love and married Joe Dobbelmann. They were blessed with the birth of daughter Diane. The family enjoyed hosting the neighborhood picnics in their beautiful backyard in Edina. She enjoyed going to garage and estate sales, and became very knowledgeable in antiques and jewelry. In the 70's, they fixed up a cabin on Parley Lake. There are many very fond memories of family fun boating, snowmobiling, waterskiing and their annual maple syrup harvesting. Joe passed away in the fall of 1978 while taking a nap before going to the cabin to duck hunt. Mom volunteered and became an employee of Value Village ARC Thrift store. She loved working with the wonderful ARC staff, customers and preparing the treasures for sale. In 1994, she moved to South Haven apartments in Edina making many dear friends over 20 years. She volunteered as a Sr. Companion for Fairview taking care of many seniors in their own homes. She was an incredible caring and loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. We are so very grateful for the care Mom received from the caregivers at Walker Suites Edina, Jones-Harrison Residence and Interim Healthcare that provided Mom hospice care. Mom is now reunited with many dear departed loved ones, her parents, Sister Joan, husband Joe, sons Mike, Kevin, and Granddaughter Jessica. Survived by sisters Audrey, Virginia, brother John; Daughter Diane and husband Collin Becker, their daughters Chelsea (Josh Pioske), Lindsay and Makensie; Son Mark Dobbelmann, his wife Cathy (Gross) and their Granddaughter Ruth; Granddaughter Laura Bestler (Sam Duncan), Daughter in Law Melissa McDonald; Granddaughter Laura Pouliot and children. A celebration of life service will be held Friday, May 5 at 12pm in the Lakewood Cemetery Chapel. Her family will hold a private short interment service at the family site in Lakewood. Directly after the Chapel service, friends are invited to the new Lakewood Mausoleum reception center to join the family in refreshments and food. Memorials preferred to Jones-Harrison Residence, 3700 Cedar Lake Ave, Mpls, MN 55416.
