De Vries, Charles Henry 1932-2017 of Edina entered eternal life Sunday, April 23, 2017. Preceding him in death were his parents, Thomas and Mabel; wife, Mary Myrl and son, Timothy Thomas. He is survived by his children, Joy Annette (John) Englund of Burnsville, MN; Kimberly De Vries of Lonsdale, MN; Stephen Charles (Hallie) of Eagan, MN; and John Marc (Brenda) of Delano, MN. Also surviving are grandchildren, Nicole Marie De Vries, Jacob Charles (Meredith) Englund, Jill Amanda (Patrick Woller) Englund, Jack Hunter (Ashley) De Vries, Shannon Molly De Vries, Dillon Paul Seiffert, Alec John De Vries, Alora Mary De Vries, Delaney Jean De Vries, Augustus William De Vries; and great grandchildren, Luke Timothy Healy, Isla Ann De Vries, Charles Thomas Englund, and Caden James De Vries, as well as several nieces and nephews. Charles was born in Parkersburg, Iowa, April 5, 1932. He graduated from Parkersburg High School, attended Wartburg, Iowa State Teachers College, and Iowa State College. He obtained a bachelor of science in agriculture and played clarinet and alto saxophone in various ensembles. Charles Henry and Mary Myrl Muetzel were married on April 17, 1953, and lived in Harlan, IA and Rockville, MD; before moving to their long term home in Edina, MN. Charles was a faithful member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg, Iowa and a founding member of St. John's Lutheran in Rockville, MD. Normandale Lutheran in Edina has been his church home since 1966. He obtained a Real Estate license, worked as a field agent for Farm Bureau in Harlan, IA, and later worked as a journalist for the National Lutheran Council and Religious News Service in Washington, D. C. Charles authored Inside Rural America: A Lutheran View, 1962, and covered the March on Washington, 1963 and the first Lutheran-Catholic Dialogue in Baltimore, 1965. In Minneapolis, Charles was elected an officer, Assistant VP, at Lutheran Brotherhood from 1967 to 1992. After retirement, he was a Realtor with Edina Realty. He resided at Augustana Regent in Burnsville, MN for the past two years. An opportunity to visit with the family will be at 10 AM on Saturday, April 29, with a service to follow at 11 AM at Normandale Lutheran Church, 6100 Normandale Rd in Edina (952-929-1697). Interment will be private at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis. Memorials may be given according to the donor's choice.
