Hanson, Jerome age 95, passed away at Good Samaritan Home in Waconia on December 21, 2016. A decorated veteran of WWll, he served in the 94th Infantry Division under General Patton participating in the Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns including the Battle of the Bulge. The American government presented him with the Bronze Star medal, the European, African, Middle Eastern Service medal, the Good Conduct medal and two overseas service bars. He was wounded twice receiving a Purple Heart and one Oak Leaf Cluster. In 2010 he was presented with the Knight of the Legion of Honor medal, the highest decoration given by the French government. Jerome was born September 13, 1921 in Canby, Minnesota. He graduated in 1940 from high school in Mound, MN. It was here where he met his wife of 70 years, Doris "Toots" Peterson. They were married in 1946. Farming was his passion. He owned and operated a dairy farm in Maple Plain. Also a skilled woodworker, he spent many hours in his shop after retiring from farming. He and Doris also enjoyed traveling to his army reunions, wintering in Arizona, playing cards and dice games and spending time with friends at the Delano Senior Center. He was a very generous person who was always there to volunteer his time and skills wherever he was needed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie and Minor Hanson, sister Audrey Hartwell and brother Wallace Hanson. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Doris; daughters Sharon Harding (Scott), Susan Thompson (Tim); grandchildren, Beau Thompson (April), Melanie Ronneberg (Tim), Brandi Bizek (Scott) and Michelle Carlson (Shawn); great-grandchildren Ruby and Roman Kemp, Raleigh Thompson, Madelyn, Charlie and Reese Ronneberg, Aria Bizek, Ethan, Natalie and Nora Carlson; eight nieces and nephews and extended family Cindy, Tony, Brett, Josie and Lance Gulyash. Funeral service 11:00 AM Thursday Dec. 29, with visitation one hour prior at Christ Lutheran Church in Maple Plain. Interment at Christ Lutheran Cemetery.
