Mahigel, Barbara Ann (Phenix) Our dearly beloved Barb, 74, was taken from us on November 28, 2016. Preceded in death by her loving parents, Esther and John Phenix. Survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Dr. Elias "Lou" Mahigel; son and daughter-in-law, Michael Mahigel and Kelly Baker; sisters, Nancy Himes, Kay Howell, and Janet McCoy; grand-dogs, Lola and Bronson; and hundreds of loving friends. Barbara was a lifelong Minneapolis resident who dedicated her life to helping others. She held a BA in education from the University of Minnesota and taught at Seward Elementary School before her retirement. She fought for equal rights her entire adult life, from civil rights in the 1960s, to LGBTQ rights in her later years. She volunteered for the benefit of the underprivileged until her passing. Barb was a caretaker and a selfless protector of her kin. She loved life, family, friends, strangers, and animals. Her positive attitude and outlook could not be suppressed. Her smile and warmth brought joy to everyone fortunate enough to have been in her presence. Services will be held Saturday, December 17th at Good Samaritan United Methodist Church in Edina, MN. Visitation begins at 10 am and a memorial service will follow at 11 am.
