McElroy, Philip James Age 83, of Edina, passed away November 9, 2016. Preceded in death by wife of 57 years, Patti; parents, Joseph and Kathleen (Meighen); brother, Jerry, and sister-in-law, Lizabeth; & brother-in-law, William Weed. Survived by brother, John David; sisters-in-law, Arlys McElroy and Bette Weed; children, Mike (Katie), Todd (Trish), Tim, Shawn (Wendy); grandchildren, Derrick, Sarah, Nick, Jamie, Mikaela, Phil, Ali, Kelsey, Chris, Kathryn, Shannon, and Christine; great-grandchildren, Adalyn and Caden; and nieces, nephews and friends. During high school in his native Preston, MN, Phil developed a knack for football. His talent and diligence led to the pursuit of a successful athletic career playing for the U of MN Gophers in the 1950s. The work ethic he gained as an athlete led him to a lifelong career with Principal Financial Group, providing award-winning service to all his clients. His continued love of sport and hard work grew into a passion for the Olympic Games (he attended 19 Games since 1964). Phil's success provided for a lifetime love of world travels he shared with family and friends, always engaging with locals. Our beloved patriarch will be deeply missed. Funeral Mass Fri.
