Shelton, Mary Carol of Edina, age 54, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep July 26, 2016. Survived by son David Tonti, sisters Nancy Shelton-Allen (Richard), Susan Shelton (Miles Malone) and Barbara Shelton; nephew Ryan Fudala (Lisa), niece Christine Thatcher, grandniece Samantha Thatcher, grandnephew Jacob Thatcher, former husband Giovanni Tonti, loving friends and relatives near and far. Preceded in death by mother Millie, father Dean Sr. and brother Dean Jr. After graduating from Edina East, Mary began her nursing career in Minneapolis, MN. She moved to Chicago, IL, earned her R.N. degree and then took a traveling nurse assignment to AZ. It was there that she met and married her pilot husband whose work took them to many cities around the country. With the birth of beloved David, her career switched to full time mom and happy years were spent in Port Washington, WI. Her final move was back to Edina where she worked as the school nurse at Normandale School. "Nurse Mary" loved her work and made lifelong friends wherever she lived. Her love of nature, sense of compassion and sense of humor have been passed on to David. We will miss her beautiful smile. Funeral service 11am August 12, 2016 at The Basilica of St. Mary, 88 N 17th Street, Mpls, MN. Visitation prior at 10am. Memorials may be directed to the family who are establishing a fund for David.
