Phillips, Mary Kay (nee D'Aquila) Passed away after waging an intense, unique, and fourteen year plus war against brain cancer. Born June 9, 1953, in Hibbing, Minnesota, she was the dedicated wife to Scott; incredibly loving mother to Thomas (Michelle) and Christina; adoring grandmother to Marshall and William; faithful sister to Patricia (John) Merickel, Barbara D'Aquila, Margaret D'Aquila, and James (Bonnie) D'Aquila; caring sister-in-law to Donna D'Aquila; doting aunt and cousin to many. She was a steadfast friend, especially to her bff, Charlotte Minor, her Labradors, as well as a mentor to many. She was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Dolores (Casagrande) D'Aquila, and brother, Tom. Mary Kay showed the world what real strength is, was known for following her heart, and dancing to her own drummer every day of her life. She loved all her endeavors, but it was her family who were truly the center of her life and ruled her heart. She loved her children and grandsons with an endless passion and cared deeply for her family. Everyone who knew her will never forget, among other things, Mary Kay's fabulous (and at times raucous) dinner parties accompanied by her amazing cooking and endless jokes. A private service celebrating Mary Kay's life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, Mary Kay asked that any contributions in her memory be directed to the Dr. Daniel Lachance Research Fund, Mayo Clinic, 200 First Street SW, Rochester, MN 55905 (for his ongoing neuro-oncology research).
