Mathews, Elizabeth W.C. Elizabeth (Betty) Warner Clark Mathews, 91, of Eden Prairie, MN passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, to Elizabeth Ward and Edward Ford Clark, she attended Laurel School in Shaker Heights, OH, and Western Reserve University in Cleveland. A Minneapolis resident since WWII, Mathews was active in numerous community activities including the Girl Scouts of America, Edina Woman's Club, the Episcopal Church of St. Stephen the Martyr, the Minikahda Club, and the Rio Verde Country Club in AZ, and was Director and Secretary of the Rio Verde Community Relations Committee. Mathews was a supporter of the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, having volunteered there, the Animal Humane Society, the Audubon Society, and the Nature Conservancy. She was a Master bridge player, an accomplished gardener, expert birdwatcher, and always had a houseful of flowers. Betty is survived by her husband, Dean C. Mathews, daughters Betsy Gross of Bellingham, WA, Deborah Johnson of Greenfield, MN, and Annie Mathews of Cloquet, MN, and son Dean C. Mathews III of Minneapolis along with 8 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
