Cotten, David J, Age 71, of Eden Prairie, MN, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2014 at McAllen Medical Center, McAllen, TX following a series of brain aneurysms. He is survived by special friend, Sharon Stoll; 2 daughters Amanda H. Steppe (fiancé Brandon Reeves) and Rebecca L. Cotten, 3 grandchildren Grantly and Addison Steppe, Caden Reeves, 1 sister Diane (Al) Snorek, 2 nephews, Doug (Karen) Snorek ( Krystal and Matthew), Keith (Kelli) Snorek. Sharon's children Jeff (Joan) Stoll (Ryan and Emily), Chad (Alicia) Stoll (Shelby, Alandra and Annika), and Jill Shavlik (Des and Dexter). David graduated from Mankato High School in 1960, and served in the US Navy from 1960 to 1964. David was stationed in Baltimore Maryland where he was presented with multiple honorable awards while he served, and was selected to stand guard at President JFK's viewing and funeral procession. He attended the University of MD where he obtained his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked his career at Crown Lift Stak and Stor for approximately 46 years prior to retirement in 2011. Since retirement, David and Sharon have spent their time in the Rio Grande Valley in Weslaco TX. Dave was the choir director of their church at Ranchero Village. Dave thoroughly enjoyed volunteering his time for many causes he and Sharon were passionate about. Dave was on the board of directors for the Rio Grande Music Festival which helped raise money for the local schools to purchase music equipment. He started a fundraiser at church by performing concerts to raise money for the under privileged children at Margo School in Weslaco. Dave was a man of many gifts, especially his gift of music. He sang with the Gloryland Gospel Band, as well as his solo show Heaven Bound. Over the past 2 years, he has come out with 4 CD's that truly showcased his talent and love for music. He will be missed dearly. Funeral service will be held at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Eden Prairie, MN on June 13th, 2014 at 11:00 am, and burial following the luncheon at Fort Snelling Cemetery in Bloomington, MN.
