Finks, James Edward Jr. author, entrepreneur, golfer, beloved brother, uncle, friend and all-around great guy passed away suddenly and much too soon July 24 in Newport Beach, CA. He was 59. The proud son and namesake of Hall of Fame NFL Executive Jim Finks lived a life many die-hard sports fans could only dream of. He participated in many sports, particularly hockey and football, and had front row seats at some of the greatest football events in the last half century. Born in Pittsburgh, Jim traveled with his family during his childhood, attending and graduating from Edina High School in Edina, Minnesota. Jim graduated from Bemidji State University and enjoyed a short stint as a radio sportscaster. His passion for professional athletics led to his involvement with many professional and semi-professional sports organizations including the Portland Timberwolves, the Birmingham Bulls Hockey Team and the Dallas Tornado. With Upper Deck Authenticated, Jim worked for many years alongside countless sports celebrities in the sports memorabilia business. His friendship with the late former Chicago Bears legend Walter Payton was something he cherished. Jim was also a published author, writing the preeminent history of NFL uniforms called "Colors", as well as a touching tribute to his father titled "It's Been a Pleasure." Jim's friends and family meant the world to him, and our hearts are breaking for our dear "Uncle Jimmy". He will be deeply missed by his brothers, Daniel, David (Maggie), Tom (Lisa); his nieces and nephews, Liz, Jack, Olivia, Charlie and Maxine, as well as countless friends and colleagues. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Maxine Finks. Visitation Thursday, Aug. 2, 4-7 pm at Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Blvd. at Old Orchard Rd. Skokie IL.
