Abbott, Richard Lewis Beloved Father & Brother WWII Veteran Richard Lewis Abbott was born on February 10, 1925, and passed away peacefully on March 8, 2012, at the age of 87. Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Gladys; and parents, Amos and Mima (Behrens) Abbott. He is survived by daughter, Charlotte (Larry) Gulden of Mahtomedi, MN; son, Aaron (Roxane) Abbott of Champlin, MN; brother, Thomas (Caroline) Abbott of Yountville, CA; sister, Mary (Bob) Taylor of Mora, MN; and by five nieces and two nephews. Richard served in the US Navy during WWII and participated in the Normandy Invasion at Omaha Beach on D-Day. He had a 33 year career at NSP (Xcel Energy). He enjoyed nature; was an avid gardener, woodworker, wood carver and sculptor. He cherished precious time in Grand Marais, MN, as well as traveling and being with his family. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. The family requests memorials to The Pillars Hospice, 6025 Upper 35th Street North, Oakdale, MN 55128.
