Elmore, Joe Earl age 89, passed away in Minneapolis on March 22. Elmore was an ordained Methodist minister who spent his career in higher education. From 1957 to 1981 he was a professor, administrator, and counselor at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, a Quaker liberal arts college. He later served as president of the Texas United Methodist College Association (TUMCA) in Austin, Texas, from 1983 to 1991. Both Elmore and his wife, Billye Lynn, were originally from Texas so the years in Austin were a home coming of sorts. In 1991 they retired to San Diego then in 2007 moved to the Kenwood Retirement Center in Minneapolis, where they enjoyed a thriving community of seniors. Elmore served in the U.S. Navy on the USS California from 1944 seeing action in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. With the G.I. Bill Elmore attended Southern Methodist University graduating in 1949 with a degree in Comparative Literature. He then earned a divinity degree from Yale University and a Ph.D. in Philosophy of Religion from Colombia University. Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Billye Lynn. Survived by son Doug (Karen) of Norman, Oklahoma; daughter Sharon (Tom Doyle), of St. Paul; son, Mick, of Bangkok, Thailand; and grandchildren Christina and Mat Elmore, and Sarah and Hannah Doyle.
