Duckstad, Paul Aaron age 96, Duluth, passed away peacefully on April 2. He was born to Brown and Sophie Duckstad, Norwegian immigrants, in Fertile, MN. Upon completion of Fertile High School, Paul attended St. Olaf College, graduating in 1936. Mr. Duckstad, lieutenant in the US Navy, served as communication officer aboard the USS Todd in the Pacific during WWII. He later established Duckstad Motor Co. in Grand Forks, ND, Duckstad Equipment Co. in Montevideo, MN and was the owner of the 1st National Bank of Fairfax, MN. Mr. and Mrs. Duckstad resided in Fairfax until moving to Duluth in 2005. Paul is survived by his wife, Dorotha, of 73 years; daughters, Judy (Dr. James Daniel) McMahon, Mpls, Mary (Rev. James) Nelson, Duluth; son, Richard Paul (Margaret), Lakeville, MN; grandchildren, Molly McMahon, Peter McMahon, Matthew (Ali) McMahon, Jon (Kjersti) Nelson, Mark (Jamie) Nelson, Tori Swedeen, Paul and Thomas Duckstad; great-grandchildren, Tagen and Kaija Nelson and Lilly McMahon. Visitation 1 PM until the 2 PM Funeral services April 7, 2010 at Lakeshore in Duluth. Interment at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, Fertile, MN. Memorials to St. Olaf College or the Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, in care of the family, are preferred. Arrangements by Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home.
