Schlessinger, Paul Gould 78, passed away March 22, 2009, at a hospice in Tyler, TX. His fantastic sense of humor carried him through his battle with Parkinson's disease and dementia. Born in Boston, Mass., June 20, 1930, to Daniel and Ruth Schlessinger, he was doted on by aunts Blanche, Grace and Gladys Smith. He graduated from Amherst College with a major in biology and received his master's degree in cinematography from the University of Houston. He worked at the Wood Hole Marine Biology Lab. For two years he served as a photographer in the Korean War. He was instrumental in creating America's first public broadcasting station, KUHT-TV. On Aug. 25, 1956, Paul married the love of his life, Sook. He went on to produce and direct radio and television commercials watched by millions, especially the Hamm's beer ads. Paul was a gentle, kind soul who loved animals and his life was filled with travel and adventure. Wife Sook preceded him in death. He is survived by his son, David Schlessinger; daughter, Gail Pelkey (and husband Dennis); and sister, Judy Schlessinger.
