Meyer, John Donald age 94 of Edina, died November 6, 2015. Born August 24, 1921 to John and Martha Meyer. Graduated from Princeton H.S. Served in the US Navy from 1942-1945 as first machinist mate and after being injured went on to shore duty in Dayton, OH, cracking the German and Japanese codes at the National Cash Register Company. After his time in the service he went on to study Forestry at the U of M College of Natural Resources where he was an assistant teacher in the lab. After a brief career in forestry, Don went back to the U of M to pursue his passion of teaching and received his degree. Don taught Biology and Enriched Biology at Edina High School for 30 years and in 2009 was inducted into the Edina High School Hall of Fame. Along with his teaching career he also started the Meyer Christmas Tree Farm in Princeton, MN. Right along side him through his endevours was the love of his life Dorothy. They were married for 56 years until in 2001 cancer took her away. He was still devoted and in love with her the rest of his days. Don was an avid woodworker and is famous for his embracing cross. He also loved to hunt and fish, as well as garden where he would grow the best tomatoes. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy; parents, 3 brothers, 3 sisters. Survived by son, Paul (Deb) Meyer; grandchildren, Paul J. Meyer, Jessica (Shane) Kruse; great-grandchildren, Courtney and Mason Kruse, and Chloe and Molly Meyer; brother, Ben; countless nieces and nephews; and dear friend John Mendesh. Don was dedicated to his faith and to his church: Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. His presence was felt by many from pastor Deb on down. His faith and his church gave him purpose and joy. Memorials preferred to Good Shepherd Foundation.
