Hanrahan, James J. 86, died Monday September 2 at home surrounded by his family. He leaves his wife of 64 years, Carole Grue Hanrahan; daughters, Kathy Hanrahan Urban (husband C.T.) and Kara Hanrahan Spike (husband Peter); sons Mike Hanrahan (wife Michelle) and Tim Hanrahan; and sisters Joan Hanrahan and Sr. Elene Hanrahan, both of Springfield, IL. He was also the proud grandfather to 7 grandchildren and 2 stepgrandchildren. He married the love of his life, Carole in 1955 and then spent two years in Germany with the US Army. Upon their return they settled in Dubuque, IA where he spent 9 years working with John Deere as an industrial engineer. In 1966, he moved his family to the Twin Cities and began a career with General Mills, retiring in 1994 as a Financial Manager. An avid golfer, he could often be found at Bluff Creek with his fellow General Mills retirees. His love of travel took he and his wife to Europe and Hawaii. Their favorite spot was Palm Springs, spending the last 20 years there, avoiding Minnesota winters. He was also an active volunteer with his church, St. Hubert's Catholic Church in Chanhassen. Jim and his family send a special thank you to Dr. Steven Rousey and his nurse Florence at MN Oncology, Dr. Durand Burns of the MN Heart Institute, and everyone at Ridgeview Hospice. Visitation is Thursday September 5th at Huber Funeral Home in Eden Prairie from 5pm 8pm. A funeral mass will be said at St. Hubert's Catholic Church the following day with visitation at 10am and mass at 11am. Interment St. Hubert's Catholic Cemetery, Chanhassan. In lieu of Flowers Jim requested donations be sent to MN Heart Institute Foundation, Sharing and Caring hands of Minneapolis and the MN Oncology Angel Foundation.
