Scott, Joan Kane 57, died on July 25, 2019, after battling cancer for almost 40 years. She is survived by her husband, Robert Scott; son Benjamin Scott; mother, Jeanette Kane; brother, Bruce Kane Jr; sisters, Kristen Johnson, Mary Kane Crumley, Margaret "Peggy" Kane Cowan. Joan was preceded in death by father, Bruce Kane Sr. A special thanks to the many wonderful individuals who gave her extraordinary care throughout her life. Joan was a light for all who came in contact with her. She refused to let her war with cancer define her. She woke up and chose joy every single day of her life. Her family, friends, students and others were the beneficiaries of this. No one celebrated life like Joan. She was an extraordinary educator. Joan cultivated lifelong relationships with her students and their families. She loved family time. She loved listening and telling stories, often laughing so hard she cried. She would drop everything if her family or friends needed her. She was a master gift giver of both her time and her talents. Joan was a vault. Whatever you told her stayed with her. She listened with empathy, not judgement. She advised with kindness, not belittlement. Joan loved volunteering and was active in the Edina Garden Club, Edina Thespians, Edina Swim Boosters, and Mount Olivet Sunday School Program. She enjoyed reading, crosswords, HGTV bingeing, and cheering on her favorite teams. Most of all Joan chose living her best life everyday. "Where there is great love, there are miracles". Joan Scott was one of those miracles. Funeral service Saturday, August 3rd, at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, 5025 Knox Ave S, Mpls, MN 55419. Visitation from 10-11 am, Service at 11 am. Reception immediately following. Memorials preferred to Edina Garden Club or American Cancer Society.
