Addison, Duane Leroy Age 88, of Minneapolis, died on April 18, 2019. Preceded in death by his parents, Virtis and Frances (Swanson) Addison, and his sister, Lois (Addison) Chalupsky. Duane was born on December 27, 1930 in Tracy, MN. He graduated as valedictorian from Marshall High School in Marshall, MN, then received a bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota Minneapolis in 1953, a master of divinity degree from Luther Seminary in 1960, a master of arts degree from Yale University in 1962, and a doctor of philosophy degree from Yale in 1966. He served 1953-56 in the US Navy as a LTJG supply officer. Duane was ordained a pastor in the American Lutheran Church in 1963 and served as Lutheran campus minister at the University of Iowa,1963-67, and Professor of Religion at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD, 1967-1993. His primary areas of research and teaching were Native American studies, Christian ethics, and World Religions. He was the founder of the South Dakota Peace & Justice Center and a past president of the Center for Western Studies. After his retirement from Augustana, Duane moved to Minneapolis and served as an adjunct professor of religion at Augsburg College. He was also a frequent teacher and bible study leader at his congregation, Nativity Lutheran Church in St. Anthony, and was active on several national boards and committees in the Lutheran Church. He was a gentle but passionate advocate for justice and equality for all. He was married to and survived by Carol Lynne Alberts 1960-92, and to Eva (Johnson, then Erickson) from 1992 until his death. Also survived by his brother, Curtis (Joyce) Addison, and three children, Richard (Michele) Addison-Wood, Roy (Lauretta) Addison, and Linnea (Steve) Fonnest and one grandchild, Finn Fonnest, also by three stepchildren, Stephen (Karen) Erickson, Andy Erickson, and Paul (Lynn) Erickson, and four step-grandchildren, Hayley, Ethan, David, and Sarah. Memorial service Saturday, May 11 at 1:00 pm at Nativity Lutheran Church, 3312 Silver Lake Rd. NE, St. Anthony. Visitation 1 hour prior to service. Lunch reception to follow.
