Weber, Patricia Ann "Patty" Born Patricia Molohon on September 8, 1928 in Mankato, Minnesota, "Patty" passed away peacefully at her home in Eagan, Minnesota, on Saturday, January 12, 2019. She was one of eight children and is preceded in death by her husband, John; second husband, Joel; parents, Joseph Molohon and Margaret Herbert Molohon; sisters, Elizabeth and Peggy; brothers, Jim, Dick, and Marty. She is survived by her sons, Vin, Jim, and Joe; sister, Susan; brother, Harvey; and 7 grandchildren, John, Haley, Lauren, Nicholas, David, Jacqueline Victoria, and Daniel. Patty grew up in Mankato, Minnesota and at age 20, became a medical technician. Strong and independent in nature, she took a job at Murray County Memorial Hospital in Slayton, Minnesota, a town of 2500 people about 100 miles west of Mankato. There she met and, in 1951, married John Weber, publisher and editor of the Murray County Herald newspaper. Together, they raised three sons: Hon. J. Vin Weber (fmr Member, US House of Representatives) and James Weber, both of Alexandria, VA; and Joseph Weber of Eagan, Minnesota. Husband John passed away from cancer in 1983. Patty took a job as field representative for Senator Rudy Boschwitz. She married Joel West in 1991. Joel passed away in 2002. Patricia Ann Weber was an accomplished woman. She was the first woman elected to serve on her local school board, in Slayton, Minnesota, and became a member of the Minnesota State Board of Education ultimately serving as that board's chair. With husband Joel, she moved to Washington DC where she served in the US Department of Education under President Reagan. It was in that capacity that she served as Director of the Presidents Commission on the Educational Status of Women. Upon retirement, she and Joel relocated to Harrisonburg, Virginia where Joel held a position as professor of psychology on the faculty of James Madison University. After Joel's death, Patricia moved to Alexandria, Virginia to be close to family, and then to Eagan Minnesota to a retirement community near St. Paul where her son Joe lives. Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Thursday, January 17th at the Church of St. Peter, 1405 Sibley Memorial Hwy., Mendota. Visitation 1 hour prior to the Mass at church. Interment St. Ann's Cemetery, Slayton, MN at 2PM on Friday with reception to follow at City Limits Bar & Grill. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred the Murray County Historical Society.
