Blaisdell (Johnson), Shirley Mae Was born March 19, 1927, in Little Falls, MN, to Ruth and John H. Johnson. She lived in Aberdeen, SD until she was 6 when the family moved to Minneapolis. She attended Minneapolis schools and graduated from South High School in June 1945. Shirley continued her education at Hennepin Technical College and the University of Minnesota before working as a tax accountant for Blatz-Robeck Law Firm. She also maintained a private tax office in her home for 30 years. In addition to her scholastic pursuits, Shirley also valued the arts and was a violin student of the late Merle Adams, a member of the high school Chamber Orchestra, and later became a member of the Minneapolis Orchestra. On October 14, 1945, Shirley married Stanley Blaisdell. The couple made their home in Bloomington where they raised their family. In 1982, they retired to their cabin at the lake and Shirley took on a new position as City Clerk and Treasurer of Emily until she retired (again) in 1994. Shirley was committed to giving back and was an election judge in Bloomington and Emily for 35 years; member of the Crosslake-Fifty Lakes American Legion Auxiliary where she served with the color guard; a member of the DAV Auxiliary in Brainerd; was a member of the Crosslake Lutheran Church; and a Boy Scout Leader and Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed reading, music, art, and gardening. Shirley passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson. She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Stanley; son, Kerry (Linda Westlie), of Shakopee; son, Kim (Mary Jo), of Prior Lake; daughter Sheryl (Eugene Luce) Blaisdell, of Waconia; seven grandchildren, Kamela, Joshua, Janessa, Brandon, Keenan, Eric, and Garrett; eight great-grandchildren, Hunter, Bailey, Morgan, Jayden, Joey, Jacob, Griffin, and Rowan; several nieces and nephews; and sisters, Betty Krone, of Mankato and Lenore Weidert, of Minneapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John Johnson, of Minneapolis, Allen Johnson, of Minneapolis, Dale Johnson, of Waseca; and sisters, Beverly Steinmetz, of California, DeLoise Johnson, of Plymouth. Services for Shirley will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Crosslake Lutheran Church in Crosslake. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to services.
