Byrne, Hugh Age 91, a proud Irish Catholic, was a man filled with compassion and conviction. He attended South High, served in the Coast Guard in WWII and was a graduate of the U of MN. He worked tirelessly to ensure that his wife and children could live a comfortable life full of promise and opportunity. Hugh retired after 32 years with Our Own Hardware as President, General Manager, and CEO. Post-retirement, Hugh found himself with a renewed focus - he shifted on continuing to embrace and cultivate the loving family that he had helped to build. Seldom a push-over, Hugh never lost his bullish tenacity - rather, he began to relax while letting his sensitivity and humor shine. His matter-of-fact disposition lent itself well to Hugh's responsibilities as a patriarch as he helped to guide his loved ones through life, while his wise-cracking nature and impassioned story-telling helped to convey his affection and positive intent. A home full of children and grandchildren was commonplace at the Byrne household and, regardless of all his professional accolades, Hugh proudly claimed his greatest achievement to be the tight-knit family that he and his late wife Shirley built. Hugh lived a life without regret, and the impact that he's had on others will be seen through the lives that the ones that loved him live. He will be missed more than words can convey, and his family is incredibly thankful for the time and generosity that he shared with them. He is survived by his children, Nancy (Chuck) Kent, Connie Cauble, Randy (Susan), Hugh Jr. (Kate) Mary (Greg) Voss; 11 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian burial will be held at noon on Thursday, December 6th at St Patrick's Catholic Church Edina with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
