Castle, Jerry Jerome William (Jerry) Castle, 83, passed away on Monday, Oct. 1 in St. Paul. Born on Sept 4, 1935 in Morton MN, he grew up in Faribault and lived there until attending the College of St. Thomas. Upon graduation in 1957, he began a long career as a teacher and guidance counselor for the St. Paul Public Schools. He and Meg McGregor Read were married in 1981 and lived in Marine on St. Croix until 2005. He retired in 1992 and then he and Meg became aging ski bums in the Rocky Mountains each winter until 2014. He was an outstanding athlete in high school and college and, during his teaching years, coached a number of sports including baseball, basketball and swimming. His love for his children knew no bounds. His death was due to complications of Alzheimer's Disease. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry Castle and Elizabeth Virginia McLean Castle and two sisters, Novella Castle Meany and Margaret Mary Castle and one grandson, Kristian Castle. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Margaret (Meg) McGregor Castle; four children: Leisa Castle Marz, Tony Castle, Angela Castle Flood (Patrick), all of St. Paul, and John Castle of Omaha; four stepchildren: Susan Gambill-Read (Patrick), Mac Read (Rachae), John Read, and Todd Read (Linda Ha). He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and several cousins. Jerry's family is grateful for his friends who supported him and his family over the past several years, especially the angels at Alton Memory Care where he had lived since June 2018 and Our Lady of Peace Hospice. Jerry's life will be celebrated on Sunday, October 14, at Christ Lutheran Church, 150 Fifth St., Marine on St. Croix, MN, at 4 p.m. with visitation one hour before and a light supper afterword.
