Mary Jane (Hickey) Adkins

Adkins, Mary Jane Hickey of St. Paul, MN died peacefully on July 14, 2018 at age 82. She was born in Willmar, Minnesota to Arthur and Clara Hickey. Mary attended the College of St. Theresa and then Marquette University where she earned her BS in psychology. She married Roger Spivey Adkins in 1958 and moved to the Washington D.C. area. While raising their children in Loudoun County, Virginia, she worked as a therapist at the Loudoun County Mental Health Center, and later earned a Masters in Social Work from The Catholic University. She subsequently open-ed her own practice as a clinical therapist. She and her husband retired in 1994 and returned to Minnesota. She is preceded in death by both parents, older sister Margaret, younger brother John (Jack), and her beloved Roger. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Thomas (Kim Edwards), Sara (Jill Alexander), David (Janet Walker Adkins) and Daniel (Athena Empson Adkins), her four grandchildren, Ryland, Camryn, Jackson, and Emilio. To remember Mary and celebrate her life, the family will host an open house at the home she shared with Dan and Athena on Friday, September 28, 2018, on the occasion of her 83rd birthday. There will be a private family service in Willmar, Minnesota on Saturday, September 29, 2018 with a dinner for friends and family to follow at the Days Inn by Wyndham/Willmar.
