recent Secret service lapses

Sept. 19: Omar Gonzalez jumped the White House fence, overpowered a Secret Service agent and ran through the ceremonial East Room before he was tackled.

2014: Six people have jumped the White House fence so far this year, out of a total of 16 in the past five years.

2012: Thirteen Secret Service agents and officers were disciplined after prostitution accusations while they were in Colombia in advance of President Obama's visit.

2011: Oscar Ortega-Hernandez parked on the south side of the White House and fired at least seven shots into the first family's residence. The president's youngest daughter, Sasha, and his mother-in-law, were inside at the time. The Secret Service took four days to acknowledge that shots had entered the presidential mansion, and they did so only after a housekeeper noticed broken glass and a chunk of cement on the floor.

2009: Tareq and Michaele Salahi managed to talk their way past the Secret Service and into a star-studded state dinner for India's prime minister in 2009, where they mingled with Vice President Joe Biden and other officials. A preliminary internal investigation determined that a Secret Service checkpoint did not follow proper procedure in checking the guest list.
