The son of Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek was cited early Friday morning after rear-ending a fire engine in Brooklyn Center, according to a police report.

Ryan J. Stanek, 23, was charged with failing to drive with due care and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.

Police found marijuana pipes in his smashed-up truck, but a breath test administered to the younger Stanek failed to detect alcohol in his system.

He was alone in the vehicle, and no one was injured during the accident in the 3900 block of 58th Avenue N.

Sheriff Stanek declined to comment Monday.

Friday's accident was the latest in a series of run-ins with the law for the sheriff's son.

In March 2015, Ryan Stanek pleaded guilty to fourth-degree drunken driving and was sentenced to a year's probation after being cited by Maple Grove police. He admitted leaving a party to smoke in his car with the keys in his possession; state law allows for the charging of drunken driving where a person has physical control of a vehicle even if he or she isn't driving.

In July 2014, Ryan Stanek was charged with property damage of a horse trail at Lake Rebecca Park Reserve near Delano, after he and friends went four-wheeling in the park and got stuck in the mud. Park district officials estimated that $5,400 worth of damage was done to the trail.
