Road to 2026 World Cup

The United Bid Committee, representing the U.S., Canada and Mexico, has identified 44 cities, including Minneapolis, as possible sites for World Cup matches in 2026. Here's what happens next:

Sept. 5: Deadline for cities to respond to United Bid Committee request to be considered. Minneapolis has already said it will make a bid.

Late September or early October: Short list of about 30 cities identified.

Early January 2018: Refined bids due from selected cities.

March 16: Deadline for official bid, with about 25 cities, to be presented to FIFA.

June 2018: FIFA expected to select the 2026 World Cup host, which is expected to need 12 to 16 locations for matches.
