With temperatures forecast to drop to near minus 20 and the windchills expected to go even lower, MnDOT has called off weekend work on the Lafayette Bridge.
The agency had planned to pour new concrete for the bridge and close the northbound lanes of Hwy. 52 from Concord Street to 7th Street on Saturday.
The work is "cancelled due to cold weather," said spokeswoman Chris Krueger.
While the highway will remain open in both directions, restrictions still remain. No vehicle or combination of a vehicle and trailer longer than 35 feet is allowed on Hwy. 52 between 7th Street and Plato Blvd.
The recommended detour takes prohibited vehicles along Hwy. 61, I-494 and I-94.
