Vikings coach Brad Childress will hold his press conference 12:30 p.m. today so we should know the plan for how the team plans to handle the bye week.
While we wait for that, we thought we would point out how the Vikings finished the regular season statistically in different areas:
- The Vikings finished No. 5 in total offense and No. 6 in total defense. As Judd mentioned in an earlier post, they were No. 2 in run defense, ending a streak of three consecutive seasons as the top run defense. They were 19th in pass defense.
- They finished No. 8 in passing offense, which is easily the highest under Childress. The previous high was 18th in 2006. They were 13th in rushing this season.
- They finished fifth in third-down offense and third in third-down defense.
- Brett Favre finished No. 2 in passer rating (107.2). He was third in completion percentage (68.4), tied for second in touchdown passes (33) and tied for second for fewest interceptions (7).
- Adrian Peterson finished fifth in rushing (1,383 yards) after winning the title last season. Peterson led the league with 18 touchdown runs.
- Sidney Rice finished tied for 12th in the NFL in receptions (83) and was fourth in receiving yards (1,312).
- Ryan Longwell finished third in the NFL in scoring by kickers (132 points).
- Percy Harvin finished fourth in kickoff return average 27.5.
- Tight end Visanthe Shiancoe finished tied for fourth among all players with 11 touchdown catches.
- Defensive end Jared Allen finished second in the league in sacks with 14.5.
