The Vikings just announced that they have officially named Leslie Frazier as their head coach. They will hold a press conference at 4:15 p.m. at Winter Park.

Frazier, 51, becomes the eighth head coach in team history. He had the interim tag removed from his title after posting a 3-3 record after taking over when Brad Childress was fired.

"We are thrilled that Leslie Frazier will continue to lead this football team," Vikings owner Zygi Wilf said in a statement. "Our players and entire organization have great respect for Leslie. He has a vast knowledge of the game, both as a former player and as a coach, and he has a terrific way with those who play for him and work with him. We are very fortunate to have him as our Head Coach and look forward to many successful years together." Said Frazier in a statement: "I could not have asked for a better opportunity in the National Football League. The Wilf family has continually shown dedication to building a world-class football organization and is a tremendous family to work with as we try to create and sustain a Championship-caliber team. I have a deep respect for our players and those within the organization that I have gotten to know over the last four years and I am very happy to lead our football team moving forward."

As we wrote today, Frazier has broad support inside the locker room. A number of players spoke highly of him and campaigned for him to get the job the past two days.

"He has his own set of rules, and we all respect him," wide receiver Percy Harvin said after Sunday's season-ending loss to the Detroit Lions. "He's one of those guys where he meets with the leaders on the team constantly, asking if there is anything to be changed. If it's something reasonable, he'll get it done to the benefit of our team. We all love playing for him and would love to play for him in the future."
