Update: Ellison announced a change of venue for the event, which will now be at Global Market Atrium, 920 E. Lake St.

Rep. Keith Ellison plans to hold a "Congress on the Corner" event at a grocery store in Minneapolis on Friday, less than a week after Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot at a grocery store in Tucson, Ariz.

Ellison announced Tuesday on Twitter that his event will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday at Cub Foods on W. Broadway and Lyndale Avenue N. Global Market Atrium, 920 E. Lake St.

In response to Saturday's shooting, Ellison made clear he would not stop holding public events. "We can never allow violence, threats and intimidation to prevail," he said. "Americans will never bow to the gun."

The House returns to Washington Wednesday for a resolution condemning the shooting rampage and offering condolences for the victims, as well as briefings on security. While members say they are reevaluating security in the wake of the shooting, they have also emphasized that meeting with constituents in public is a core part of their job and they will continue to do so.

After Ellison announced the public event on Twitter, he received a response from @RedArgyle that said: "It pains me to have to say this, but please bring security. And thank you for still doing this."

Ellison responded, "@RedArgyle, plenty of security - uniformed and undercover."
