City Pages is throwing a little dirt in the big hole left open by the River's Edge Festival postponement in June. The local alt-weekly newspaper announced details today of its inaugural 10 Thousand Sounds, a one-day bash in downtown Minneapolis that will bring East Coast indie-rock darlings the Walkmen and Free Energy back to town June 22, same weekend River's Edge would have happened (and the weekend after Rock the Garden).

Four local buzz acts will round out the bill: the Chalice, Greg Grease, Prissy Clerks and Strange Names.
The event will take place 4-10 p.m. on a single outdoor stage near Eighth Street and Hennepin Avenue. Advance tickets go on sale April 12 via Ticketfly.com for $20, or $45 for VIP.

Also newly announced today: The Memory Lanes Block Party, always one of the first and most laid-back street fests of the season, will return May 25-26 (Memorial Day weekend). The all-local lineup will include buzzing rapper Sean Anonymous backed by Dream Crusher, Southside Desire, Teenage Moods and the Sex Rays all on the Saturday bill, plus a deliciously womanly Sunday card with Lucy Michelle & the Velvet Lapelles, Davina & the Vagabonds, L'Assassins and Malamanya. As always, the party is free and all ages and will include bands inside the bowling alley after 10 p.m. Check for details here.
