BALTIMORE -- The Twins were hoping Scott Baker would take another step toward returning from his elbow injury Thursday night. Instead, he appeared to take another step back.

Baker left his start for the Class A Fort Myers Miracle after throwing just 11 pitches and recording one out and was seen talking to a trainer in the dugout, according to a tweet from Fort Myers News-Press reporter David Dorsey.

"Baker just didn't feel right tonight," Twins GM Terry Ryan said in an e-mail. "He couldn't seem to get loose on the mound and instead of pushing the envelope, we decided we would go get him out of the game. We will evaluate him again tomorrow."

Earlier today, Manager Ron Gardenhire said Baker would need "at least" one more rehab start after tonight before rejoining the Twins.

"He's kind of been on cruise control to not hurt himself," Gardenhire said. "Well, now he's gotta throw the ball. And let it fly, and that's what he's going to have to do down there, and we'll see what they say."
