*** Who are you? ***

When approached with the question: Who are you?

What comes to the forefront of your mind? Is it experience, titles, your name?

Strangely enough some people feel that they are defined by the things from which they have disassociated themselves e.g., Ex cons, Recovering drug addicts, etc. Some others fight the necessity to be defined and thereby refined to a finite explanation of who they are.

The definition of a person is something that has to be fluid. It has to change with the individual as everyone changes over time. For example while today I describe myself as a 23year old next year if asked my age I'll have a new answer.

Then again that begs the question: Is our age an accurate criteria by which to be defined?

I happen to think it is. While it's nowhere near complete as a definition it is in part a very specific truth that has the capacity to provide insight to the core of our perceptions. Another important part of what I'll call "Self-definition" is your name. A person's name is something that gives a title to who you are. Without a name a person is a book without a title.

There are a million different criteria that can be used as puzzle pieces with strange shapes that fit together creating a wholistic image of who we are. What is important is to decide what pieces of our puzzle are most important and which pieces provide a more clear picture.

Which pieces are important to you?

Race? Religion? Origin? Sexual orientation?

Let me know,
