2 theater students talents recognized
The two received the honors for their singing, dancing and acting skills recently during the eighth annual SpotLight Showcase, an event honoring students from 56 Minnesota high schools for excellence in musical theater.
Hassanzadeh and Amundson will be treated to a free trip to New York, where they will receive private singing and acting coaching, dance classes at Broadway Dance Center, meet with industry professionals about the entertainment business, participate in a private audition with Telsey and Co., and attend several Broadway shows.
Hassanzadeh, a junior at Bloomington Jefferson, also received SpotLight honors for Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role for her portrayal of Belle in “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.”
Amundson, a senior, was recently named one of Minnetonka High School’s “10 Students to Watch in 2013.” He received additional SpotLight honors for Outstanding Performance in a Supporting Role for playing Dickon in “The Secret Garden” and Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role for playing Radames in “Aida.” He will attend Cincinnati College Conservatory next year to pursue musical theater.
Scholarship deadline coming up July 1
The New Hope Women of Today are now accepting applications for the Lavon H. Cooper Scholarships.
To qualify for the grant, applicants must be a graduate of a Robbinsdale School District high school, have completed a minimum of two years of college and maintained a 3.0 grade-point average.
The scholarships range from $300 to $1,000. The deadline to apply is July 1.

Music boosters plan instrument sale
The Wayzata Music Educations Boosters will sponsor their 10th annual band and orchestra instrument consignment sale from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Wayzata High School cafeteria (Door No. 34), 4955 Peony Lane N., Plymouth.
The annual event is an opportunity for those interested in selling used instruments and for buyers looking for a starter instrument, an upgrade or a second instrument. Both band and orchestra instruments will be for sale.
Sellers can bring their used instruments for evaluation and pricing Tuesday, and buyers can shop for instruments Wednesday. For more information, visit www.wmeb.org.
