Joel K. Bruss of Apple Valley has been sentenced to two years of probation for driving a Zamboni in an ice arena while intoxicated earlier this year.

Bruss, 34, had pleaded guilty to a gross misdemeanor of driving while intoxicated for the January incident in Apple Valley.

Bruss, who resigned from his part-time job with the Apple Valley parks and recreation department in March, also must complete a treatment program for alcohol, his lawyer, Mark McDonough, said on Friday.

Bruss was sentenced on Thursday in Dakota County District Court. He was had been convicted before of drunken driving, in 2002 and twice in 1999.

Bruss was arrested after being seen driving the machine in an erratic manner at Hayes Arena, according to police. He had a blood-alcohol content of 0.32 percent -- four times the legal limit for driving, according to court documents.

McDonough said neither he nor his client had any further comment on the matter.
