Homicide and traffic detectives continued their investigation Saturday of a Friday night crash in a north Minneapolis alley that killed two people and injured two others.

Just before 8 p.m. Friday, a vehicle barreled down an alley north of Lowry Avenue and west of Penn Avenue N. The female driver hit two telephone poles before flipping her vehicle and ultimately crashing into a parked car as someone was getting out of it.

"Speed, reckless and impaired driving are all thought to be possible causes of the crash," said police spokesman John Elder. The woman, who survived, could face homicide charges, he said.

An unmarked Minneapolis police car had been pursuing two cars that passed by at high speeds and had pulled the second driver over 7:52 p.m. That driver explained to police that he was trying to catch up to the first car after being struck by it.

Officers had just headed after the first vehicle when a plume of debris from the crash scene came into view.

A passenger from the suspect vehicle was killed, along with the driver of the car that was struck, Elder said. Their genders were not released.

The woman driving the suspect vehicle and a passenger who had been getting out of the vehicle that was struck suffered noncritical injuries.
