Liberty Classical Academy, a nondenominational Christian school operating in a new home in White Bear Lake, will host a tour and open house on Nov. 13.

The activities follow the school's move in July to a single campus at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3878 Highland Av. Liberty Classical Academy was founded in 2003 and offers a broad liberal arts curriculum that requires graduates to take four years of math, lab science, history and English. Latin is taught there, too.

"Liberty students consistently achieve because our program combines academic rigor, engaging classrooms and Christian values," Rebekah Hagstrom, the school's headmaster, said in a news release.

The school has 165 students in its pre-K through 12th grade program, and learned recently that Jake Crandall, a high school senior, was named a 2014-15 National Merit Scholarship semifinalist.

At 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 13, the school will host a tour that will include observing students in the classroom and listening to parent testimony about the school. Hagstrom also will make a brief presentation, the school said.

The open house and information night then begins at 7 p.m. on Nov. 13. Teachers will be on hand to talk about the school's curriculum.

To attend, contact Nghi Anderson at 651-772-2777 or admissions@libertyclassicalacademy.org.

Michael Pelton, a school spokesman, said recently that the school draws most of its students from Ramsey and Washington counties.

Crestview school marks 50th year

Current and former teachers, students and staff members attended the 50th anniversary celebration at Crestview Elementary School in Cottage Grove on Oct. 2.

The event included the opening of a time capsule that had been placed in a school wall during the 1989-90 school year.

Among the items in the time capsule were a Crestview banner, a newspaper clipping documenting Mikhail Gorbachev's 1990 visit to the Twin Cities and several fashion items. The school plans to assemble a new time capsule to be opened on the school's 75th anniversary.

A video of the event is available for viewing on the South Washington County School District website.

Tartan High sets 'Taste' festivities

The fourth annual Taste of District 622 event offering food and drink from area businesses has been set for Nov. 8 at Tartan High School in Oakdale.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the 622 Education Foundation, a nonprofit community group dedicated to raising and distributing funds in support of schools and students in the North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School District.

A silent auction is planned during the event, which runs from noon to 2 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for district staff members and $5 for students, and can be purchased online at www.622educationfoundation.com or at the door. There is no charge for children under 5, a district news release said.

Also on Nov. 8, Tartan is hosting a craft and vendor fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to raise money for next year's all-night graduation party.
