St. Paul police are searching for the driver of a car involved in a hit-and-run accident early Sunday that left two people hospitalized in critical condition, a police spokesman said.
The victims, a man and a woman, both 22-years-old, were taken to Regions Hospital after being struck about 2:30 a.m. after they got out of a cab in the 1900 block of Grand Avenue, police spokesman Sgt. Paul Paulos said.
Police Sgt. Stuart Burke, who is investigating the accident, said that the man and woman were in the cab with three other people and were hit by a westbound vehicle as they attempted to cross Grand Avenue between Prior Avenue S. and S. Howell Street.
“It was a mid-block incident,” he said.
Police are looking for a silver 2011-13 Mazda2 sedan with damage to its left front end. Specifically, Burke said, the left headlight and the plastic molding around a lower left fog light were broken. The cover of the left-side mirror also was recovered at the scene.
“The mirror should still be on the car, but the outside housing would be missing,” Burke said Sunday. He added that the car also might have scuff marks.
