Last weekend MnDOT shut down westbound I-94 in downtown St. Paul. This weekend the agency will shut down the eastbound lanes.

Meanwhile Metro Transit has scheduled maintenance on the Green Line. Buses will substitute for trains from 6 p.m. Sunday to 3 a.m. Monday between Union Depot and the Snelling Avenue station. Transit officials remind commuters that buses will operate on a similar schedule as trains but can take more time.

Now, back to the freeway closure: Starting at 10 p.m. Friday, the eastbound lanes will be closed from I-35E and Mounds Blvd. The closure will be in effect until 5 a.m. Monday.

In preparation for the weekend work, crews will close the ramp from 6th Street in Lowertown to eastbound I-94 at 9 a.m. Friday. The ramp will reopen at 5 a.m. Monday.

While the freeway is closed, crews will be removing and replacing bridge beams for the new Lafayette Bridge, also known as Hwy. 52.

Here is how to get around: Eastbound motorists will be directed to northbound 35E and then east on 694. Using eastbound Hwy. 36 could save you a few miles. Snaking through downtown St. Paul on 7th Street also is an option. The ramps to east 94 at Mounds Blvd. will be open.

The ramp from northbound Hwy. 52 to eastbound I-94 will remain open.
