Minneapolis started its fall street sweeping last week. Today St. Paul gets into the action.

The city's Public Works department will be posting temporary "No Parking" signs on residential streets over the next few weeks as the city conducts its annual clean up. Signs are supposed to be posted at least 24 hours before a street is cleaned.

When signs are up, parking will be banned on the block from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the day the street is to be swept. Parking is banned until the signs are removed.

The city warns that vehicles left on the street will be subject to a ticket.

To find out when a certain street will be swept, the city has an interactive website that lays out the schedule. Sweeping will continue through the week of Nov. 17. For information, residents can call the 24-hour Street Maintenance hotline at 651-266-9700 with other questions.

The city also reminds residents that pushing leaves, grass clippings or other debris into the street is prohibited. Anything that goes down a storm drain flows directly into nearby lakes and rivers, and decomposing plant material in the water encourages the growth of harmful aquatic plants and algae.
