The Better Business Bureau is encouraging customers to read the fine print after receiving more than 53,000 complaints in the past three years against satellite television providers.

The BBB said customers often complained about early termination fees of as much as $600 or charges for services they didn't request. Another common complaint was that upgrading or changing service or equipment resulted in an automatic contract extension. The BBB suggests you get any statements in writing; verbal promises may not show up in final contracts. Check your bill for irregularities; the sooner you catch problems the better. Keep track of dates, such as when you need to cancel offers or contracts, the bureau said. For this and other Better Business Bureau tips click here.
