On "Drop Dead Diva" (8 p.m., Sundays, Lifetime), Brooke Elliott plays a bubbly fashion model who is reincarnated in the body of a lawyer. As the character adjusts to her new life and body, part of the story plays out through fashion. We chatted with Elliott, who was born in Minnesota, isn't quite as fashion-obsessed as her character, but admits she loves a great pair of designer shoes.
Q What is your approach to fashion?
A Look for things that feel good on you and accentuate your positives.
Q Do you have a signature look?
A I love the fashion in the fall and winter, especially boots. Typically I'll wear jeans and boots and some cute top, something along those lines.
Q That sounds very Minnesotan, but you weren't even in the state that long. What gives?
A Yeah, maybe I have picked up on some of that with my Midwest living.
Q Has your style changed since you've been playing these characters?
A Not really. I would not say at all that I'm a fashionista. I love Target and a lot of my clothes aren't the most expensive. A lot of what I like is dictated by what looks good on me.
Q Do you have an absolute favorite item in your wardrobe?
A I have a sweatshirt from Target that I wear as often as I can. It's gray and it has the "Sesame Street" gang on there and it says "All my homies are from the street."
Q Where else do you like to shop?
A This sounds kind of boring, but I'll shop at the Gap, Banana Republic and Old Navy.
Q Do you ever splurge?
A I just splurged on two Louis Vuitton bags. I've always wanted to own one, but I could never justify the price.
Q Tell us about your beauty routine.
A I'm much more of a makeup girl. I use my L'Oreal Double Extend mascara. I have one in every single bag that I own so that I always have my mascara. I had this great Revlon lip gloss but they discontinued it, which I can't believe. I've been using Stila and Bobbie Brown and Armani foundation.
Q Favorite hair products?
A Brocato shampoo, conditioner and hairspray. My hair guy on the show got me kind of into that. My key thing I have to use on my hair is Bed Head Volumizing Gel. My hair is thick but it's very fine so it tends to lose its volume very quickly. I can't do my hair without it!
Q Are you a shoe hound?
A I have a lot of boots and cowboy boots.
Frye boots just rule and last forever.
Q What about dress shoes?
A I've got some great Yves Saint Laurent and Chanel shoes for events. Things I probably wouldn't have spent the money on before, but now I'm like, 'Oh, these shoes are wonderful.'"
