Avoiding kitchen mistakes

Are you considering a kitchen makeover? If so, you're invited to a free design seminar at Crystal Kitchen Center.

Experts will share the 10 most common mistakes in kitchen design, as well as guidelines from the National Kitchen and Bath Association. You'll learn about the latest cabinet accessories and appliances, universal design, green design and more.

Parkinson's art fundraiser

If you'd like to invest in some artwork while supporting people with Parkinson's disease, head to the Galleria on Friday for the Art of Parkinson's, the first artists' fundraiser of the National Parkinson Foundation Minnesota.

Ten local artists from the Parkinson's community will display paintings, sculptures, photography and crafted pieces, available for purchase. The $10 cost for the fundraiser includes light appetizers and soft drinks from Crave, as well as a Galleria coupon booklet.

The fundraiser will be held 3-7 p.m. Friday in the Galleria's West Atrium, near the Louis Vuitton store. The Galleria is located at 69th and France Avenue S. in Edina.

Remodeling for resale

Samantha Strong, a real estate agent and general contractor with Metamorphosis, will discuss which remodeling projects are most attractive to buyers.

Spring grill prep

Is your grill ready for the grilling season? Gertens is offering a free grill-prep seminar on Saturday. You'll learn tips and tricks for every kind of grill, including how to determine whether your grill needs just a simple cleaning or replacement of parts. You'll also see a wide variety of tools for repairing or maintaining any type of grill.

The seminar will be offered at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday at Gertens, 5500 Blaine Av., Inver Grove Heights.

HomeGoods opens in Edina

Fans of HomeGoods have a new venue to visit. The off-price store focused on home fashions, from furniture to lamps, rugs, bedding and bath, unveils a new location in Edina today, March 10.

The new 25,000-square-foot store at Centennial Lakes Plaza opens its doors at 8 a.m. (Regular Sunday hours will be 11 a.m.-8 p.m.) The first 1,000 shoppers at the Edina store will receive a free reusable Home Goods shopping bag. Centennial Lakes Plaza is at France Avenue S. and Parklawn Avenue.

Farmers market at the Arb

Eating local isn't just for the summer months. On Saturday, March 16, the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum will host the Mill City Farmers Market, featuring locally grown and produced products from pickles to honey to artisan cheeses to freshly milled grains and flours.
