Vintage savvy

Want to learn how to integrate Granny's heirlooms and other vintage pieces into your decor? LiLu Interiors will offer tips at "Family Ties," part of its Inspiring Design series. Designers, retailers and antique dealers will demonstrate how heirlooms and newer pieces can be combined to create an interesting style blend. Light refreshments will be served. The event will be 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at International Market Square, Studio 546, Minneapolis. Space is limited; RSVP to rik@liluinteriors.com.

New on the newsstand

HGTV is now in magazine form. The first test issue of HGTV Magazine, a new home/lifestyle publication, will hit newsstands nationwide Tuesday. A second test issue is planned for February/March. The new title is a joint project of HGTV and Hearst Magazines, and it will be divided into sections on decorating, kitchens, before-and-after projects, real estate buying and selling tips and "weekending," from flea markets to household chores. Familiar faces from HGTV will be featured, including Genevieve Gorder, Vern Yip, David Bromstad and Sarah Richardson. The cover price is $3.99.

Decluttering event

Why is it so hard to let go of our stuff? That's one of the questions that will be posed at a Declutter Expo on Monday, sponsored by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers. Organizing pros Kathy Franzen and Lisa Wendt will share strategies for paring down possessions, and vendors will showcase products and services focused on decluttering, reducing and re-using. The expo will be held 6-9 p.m. at Doubletree Park Place Blvd., St. Louis Park. Admission is $25 with a donation of shoes (new or used) for Soles4Souls. Register in advance at www.napominnesota.com.

Crawling with art

Does your home have a bare wall or niche just begging to be filled with artwork? If you're not artistic enough to create your own masterpiece, head to the St. Paul Art Crawl this weekend. Hundreds of artists and galleries in Lowertown and throughout St. Paul will open their doors to the public, 6-10 p.m. Friday, noon-8 p.m. Saturday and noon-5 p.m. next Sunday. A list of participating artists and galleries, as well as a map, is at www.artcrawl.org.
