HandsOn Twin Cities (www.handsontwincities.org, 612-379-4900) offers a list of volunteer opportunities on its website that can be searched by specific age group. A section on youth opportunities offers a calendar of upcoming events, a list of project ideas, information for educators (including an 18-page guide) and other resources. (See story, page 18.)

Students Today Leaders Forever (www.stlf.net, 612-276-2003) sends groups of students out on Pay It Forward bus tours; they stop in a different city each day and perform community service. Activities have ranged from visiting a nursing home to cleaning up a polluted river. Tours are available for middle-school students (three days), high school students (five days) and college students (nine days). Costs of tours range from $185 to $495; scholarships are available.
