All things cold are celebrated during the St. Paul Winter Carnival. But there's a warm escape at the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory, where the Winter Carnival Orchid Show will be in bloom.

Hundreds of orchid plants owned by the conservatory, as well as individual and commercial growers, will transform the space into a tropical wonderland. Presented by the Orchid Society of Minnesota, this is a judged event, with orchid judges traveling to St. Paul to bestow awards on the finest specimens.

The show will be held next Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at the conservatory in Como Park, 1225 Estabrook Dr., St. Paul. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for ages 3-12 ($1 off admission with a Winter Carnival button).

The program will be held 2 to 4 p.m. next Sunday, at Hillcrest Community Recreation Center, 1978 Ford Pkwy., St. Paul. Admission is free for Bungalow Club members, $3 for nonmembers.
