TPT DOCUMENTARY WINS PEABODY

"Depression: Out of the Shadows," a moving documentary co-produced by Twin Cities Public Television and WGBH Boston, has won a Peabody Award, which is given out for excellence in the world of electronic media.

The documentary was written, co-produced and directed by Larkin McPhee, who has lived and worked in Minneapolis for 15 years.

"It's fabulous," said McPhee, who learned of the recognition Wednesday morning when her editor, Steve Fischer, phoned her and played back the announcement that was streamed online. "You don't want to be beholden to awards, but it's a great affirmation, especially when you're struggling with your next project." McPhee is researching a film on the water quality of the Mississippi River.

The Peabodys, based at the University of Georgia, honored a wide range of projects and media outlets, including "Saturday Night Live" for political satire, ABC's "Lost," NBC's coverage of the opening ceremony at the Beijing Olympics, the New York Times website and YouTube.
